My mom says I have said this to all of my babies. But every time it’s been true. I love your baby, I promise, but no one can fill me with joy quite like this guy. It’s not favoritism so much as a well timed birth during a difficult year. We lost our son Matthew, we moved, my mom started chemo again. It was a year of upheavals. But there was this smile that stole my heart and gave me some much needed buoyancy as my life did cartwheels around me.
Which is why I love photographing babies – because what year isn’t like that? We all have our curve balls. Life is hard and babies get us through it.
