by Debra Wallace January is not a popular on location photography month. Things are really quiet and it’s nice to have a little bit of a breather. However, should you be itching for some photographic goodness, snow is no reason to hold back! There happen to be many studio-less winter options available. Danielle and Larry

Do you have something unique to offer the world?
by Debra Wallace A typical conversation I have with people goes something like this: “So, do you work?”“I’m a portrait photographer.”“There are SO MANY PHOTOGRAPHERS, especially in Rochester!” And there really are. I have no idea how many photographers there are in Rochester, but it is definitely a lot. There are also a lot of

Evelyn ~ 14 days old, Chili, NY newborn family photography
by Debra WallaceMeet Evelyn whose mom and dad wanted portraits badly enough to drive all the way from Ithaca! Coincidentally Evelyn’s mom also loved the bows from Tres Lulu, made by my friend Sara who is also from Ithaca. Small world! Oh, and dad is a personal trainer. If you live in Ithaca and envy his muscles, shoot

I Fell in Love With You ~ Chili, NY baby portrait photography
by Debra Wallace My mom says I have said this to all of my babies. But every time it’s been true. I love your baby, I promise, but no one can fill me with joy quite like this guy. It’s not favoritism so much as a well timed birth during a difficult year. We lost

Lisa and Brad ~ Henrietta, NY Candid Family Portrait Photography
I don’t know if Lisa had a gender preference as she was awaiting the birth of her children, but I know I totally did. I definitely wanted girls – and more than one. And each time I got a boy I was tempted to feel disappointed. But, I learned that a group of wrestling boys

2014 Portrait Give Away
There’s a woman I know who swept pounds of cracker crumbs and egg noodles from the floor in my dining room. She spent seven hours in a car holding toys up for my toddler while switching movies in and out of a DVD player for the other kids so I could be in Pennsylvania as

A Weight Loss Story ~ Rochester, NY Weight Loss Photography, Before and After
by Debra Wallace My scale and I became enemies when my type A personality railroaded it into starving me. I didn’t weigh myself for 10 years. As long as I worked out and felt good, my weight was irrelevant, dangerous even. When I went to the doctor’s office I proudly stood backwards. Ditto for three

The Story of My Christmas Card ~ Candid Family Portraits on the Westside, Rochester, NY
When I look at Christmas lights, snow and emails littering my screen with coupon codes and discount offers, I also want to see a fridge smothered in cards. Any kind is fine – preferably the type that lay flat with a great photo (ones I took are especially fun) and some sort of Holiday-ish greeting

6 Helpful Tips for Capturing Your Belly ~ Creative Maternity Photography, Rochester, NY
by Debra Wallace If your stomach is anything like mine, it may soon resemble a deflated air mattress. Before that happens, be sure to create some photographic memories so that you can relive your taut stomach and perfect skin while forgetting the waddling and grape sized bladder. When should you schedule? Maternity sessions are typically

Brinley ~ Greece, NY Newborn Photography in Your Home
by Debra Wallace Nella told me she hated me and all cute pregnant people. She also told me I was the worst salesperson ever and that I gave her daughter baby acne. Then she asked when we could schedule our next session. She said it with a smile more contagious than Christmas lights before Thanksgiving.

Bonnie & John ~ Webster, NY Christmas Portraits
If you’re from around here you know that not all snow is pretty, but after sliding to their house I loosened my grip on the steering wheel and realized it was a pretty snow day. After saying hello, I may have said something like, “Outside portraits would be awesome!!!” They braved the weather for me,

Nicole ~ Winter Outdoor Portraits in Scottsville, NY
“And whatever you do, don’t put plastic on your pillows or mattresses.” Nicole was the foster parent trainer in our foster parent class and I wanted to be her. “They’re not foster kids – they’re kids who happen to be in foster care.” When Jason and I signed up for the training class, this is

Rainy Day Family Portraits ~ Chili, NY
Cancellation Policy: If you’re good with rain, snow, sleet, sunshine or high pollen counts, so am I. Of course, it’s always a little surprising when people don’t cancel for these things but Fallanne is hard core, Colby’s a hunter and there are a few police officers thrown in the mix and whatnot, so rescheduling everyone
