As a society we take more pictures than we could possibly every use or enjoy. Because of this, it can be difficult for images to see the light of day. For those portraits that you have taken professionally or the candid ones that capture your heart, portrait jewelry is a creative and unique way to bring your photos with you.
At least a year ago I was talking with a friend and brainstorming creative ways to have people display their portraits. She had the brilliant idea of using jewelry and after spending some time with Google I discovered a world of portrait jewelry previously unknown to me. It’s become my favorite thing to do with photos.
My mom has been listening to me go on about it for quite some time and so for her birthday she requested a charm bracelet but wanted it to be eclectic because that’s her style. She wanted each of my six children to have a different setting, so that’s what we did. I threw in a few charms as a surprise since she’d known about the rest of it each step of the way.
When I first started exploring portrait jewelry I worked with a company that I was in love with, then they went out of business. I came across a relatively popular online company that did retail, but their website was cheap looking and didn’t fit for me. I did eventually come across a national lab that produces it, but also wondered if I could make it myself. Before Christmas I spent entirely too much time learning how and so this bracelet is handmade and was a true labor of love.
But it was also a really fun project and I love the end result. The great thing about this style of jewelry versus a locket or something similar is that the print is produced by a national lab so is fade resistant and is then sealed so it’s completely waterproof. The jewelry itself is nearly indestructible.
