Listen to Your Mother is a celebration of motherhood that’s more than chocolate and flowers. It’s a performance of real men and women reading short essays they’ve authored on all things related to motherhood. This year only 39 cities have been selected to create their own performance, and Rochester is one of them.
Rochester’s debut is on Friday, May 8th at 7 pm at the Memorial Art Gallery and you can purchase your tickets by clicking here. The cost is $17 per ticket which supports two local charities: the Society for the Protection and Care of Children and Parenting Village.
Monica, one of the producers, told me I was the very first sponsor – who knew! So I recently had the privilege of attending the first read through. I had read the book and I wasn’t a huge fan and I have a short attention span so I wasn’t sure how the read through would turn out. I was floored. What an incredible diversity of stories and individuals all with something interesting and unique to say about motherhood. I thought it might drag, but it felt like it was over before it started. I wished there was more.

The readings cover all aspects of motherhood – you’ll need an empty bladder and a box of tissues. To learn more about LTYM Rochester click here.
