In the words of Listen to Your Mother, “The mission of each LISTEN TO YOUR MOTHER production is to take the audience on a well-crafted journey that celebrates and validates mothering through giving voice to motherhood–in all of its complexity, diversity, and humor–in the form of original readings performed live on-stage by their authors.”
LTYM also fundraises for local organizations. This year’s performance supported both the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children and Parenting Village.
This year was Rochester’s debut performance and was held at the Memorial Art Gallery on the Friday night before Mother’s Day. The cast read their essays to a sold out audience of more than 500 people. Their stories covered topics such as secondary infertility, sons who taxidermied roadkill, a son with Downs’ Syndrome whose birth warranted equal celebration, not wanting children and having them on “accident”, anxiety related to being a mom, raising children in a world of privilege and more.
LTYM was also featured extensively in the media, which you can explore by clicking here.
