In the words of Listen to Your Mother<\/a>, “The mission of each LISTEN TO YOUR MOTHER production is to take the audience on a well-crafted journey that celebrates and validates mothering through giving voice to motherhood\u2013in all of its complexity, diversity, and humor\u2013in the form of original readings performed live on-stage by their authors.”<\/p>\n LTYM also fundraises for local organizations. \u00a0This year’s performance supported both the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children<\/a> and Parenting Village<\/a>.<\/p>\n This year was Rochester’s debut performance and was held at the Memorial Art Gallery on the Friday night before Mother’s Day. \u00a0The cast read their essays to a sold out audience of more than 500 people. \u00a0Their stories covered topics such as secondary infertility, sons who taxidermied roadkill, a son with Downs’ Syndrome whose birth warranted equal celebration, not wanting children and having them on “accident”, anxiety related to being a mom, raising children in a world of privilege and more.<\/p>\n LTYM was also featured extensively in the media, which you can explore by clicking here<\/a>.<\/p>\n
