I connected with Wendy through the Society of Women Engineers – an organization that’s active at the University of Rochester. She works in optics, which is a super challenging field. Her husband took up a completely different profession – he owns Nature’s Accept Landscaping and his property is his canvas. Wendy said that he likes to try out new ideas on their home.

I may have drooled once or twice.

The pond behind the girls (who are twins) is populated with very happy goldfish.

The lighting this day was some of the most challenging I’ve ever worked with. The sun was having a birthday party, there was no shade anywhere and it was a relatively large group. It was a day I was very glad to have some lighting tools at my disposal – including scrims (artificial shade) and a flash and umbrella.

The technique is to have everyone turn their back toward the sun to avoid squinting, and then add light back in via lighting equipment.

The pond behind them was stocked with fish and plants to make it safe to swim in. It was an incredibly hot day and the water looked delicious.

If the swimming pond with a fountain, beach volleyball court and presidential quality landscaping weren’t enough, they also owned a garage full of vintage vehicles.

Each of the kids had “adopted” one of them.

This may be my favorite father daughter shot of all time.

People often ask if you can do individual photos or subgroups during sessions and the answer is of course! Justin is an actor and took the opportunity to grab a few headshots for his portfolio.
